Food Pantry Update for May

For the month of May, your mission is to bring in canned carrots or Hamburger Helper. (You can be really creative and bring in Hamburger Helper that has carrots in it, but we’ll still just count it one time.)

The summer is a bit of a lean time for the pantry; for food and volunteers. The last big food drive before the summer will be Stamp Out Hunger on May 12th. After that, large food deliveries to the pantry will vanish until August. Likewise, regular volunteers will be hit or miss as summer vacations come around and people are involved in more activities that take them away.

Because of this, our contributions to the pantry, especially during the next few months, are very important. You can help by bringing in food (carrots and Hamburger Helper), giving money to the pantry (just designate the amount on your check or offertory envelope), and by setting out your non-perishable food well before your letter carrier’s normal pick-up time on May 12th. The earlier the better!  A good rule of thumb is to have the bags by your mailbox by 9 a.m.

As for volunteering at the pantry, you can do that too. Awesome Mildred brought a schedule by the church office, so we can let you know when they need help. You don’t have to tell them that you’re coming; just show up! The times for volunteers in May are:

  • Tuesday, May 1st at 10 AM,
  • Thursday, May 3rd at 5 PM,
  • Friday, May 4th at 10 AM,
  • Thursday, May 10th at 5 PM, and
  • Saturday, May 12th at 8:45 AM

All of these times are at the location off of Flucom Road: 705 East Stone Street. If you’re uncertain about who to contact when you arrive, almost anyone there can get you pointed in the right direction.
