Our Charge Conference has been scheduled for November 9, 2020 at 6:30 PM. Charge Conferences have gone through a lot of format changes over the years, and this year it is going…you guess it: virtual!
So, what is a Charge Conference, you ask? In the past, it was an incredibly dull time for Methodists to gather at a time outside of normal worship (Yes, really!) and elect members to the church council. It was only really entertaining if there was something contentious to discuss, which happened more frequently than you might think.
Over the years, as we worked out the wrinkles and developed processes for filling positions within the council, the charge conferences took to being about as exciting as watching paint dry. They still served a useful purpose though, and that election of individuals to the council and approval of pastor benefits has remained. Learning sessions and gatherings started being a part of the Charge Conference more recently, and there have been some good sessions in recent years.
Moving into 2020 and a pandemic though, we’re swinging back into the utilitarian model. We’ll approve the forms that are normally submitted to the conference but use a virtual platform to keep people safe. That will pretty much be the extent of it; not a lot of fluff or filler since we’re trying to keep it short.
Jim Blue is our facilitator, and the meeting should last between 30-40 minutes. Please plan on logging in between 6:20 and 6:25. We will be approving paperwork previously submitted to the district office, and all are invited to attend.
