Pastor’s Note

What if tomorrow you woke up with only the things you thanked God for today? These were the words on the tear-off page of a daily thought calendar resting on the ledge at the bottom of the stairs. Not necessarily what I had anticipated, but a very worthwhile sentiment. And then it hit me…this was actually a page meant for the previous day! In other words, I was now about to live into the day I had created from yesterday’s gratitude. Yikes!!

Talk about being in need of some grace…but isn’t that the point? The New Living Translation of Lamentations 3:21-23 states it this way:

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

I suspect that, while we may differ on many ideologies, there is at least one truth on which we could agree – that it is virtually impossible to place a value on the type of mercy and faithfulness that begins afresh each morning. It is a value demanding everything or nothing; calling us to our highest ideals or laziest pursuits…neither of which seems all that fair. Isn’t that also the point; the point of grace?

The year 2020 continues to be an unforgiving taskmaster. (I’m not going to do a lot of elaboration because I just don’t see the necessity in expanding a list that is already longer than most had dared to consider.) I just want to ask this of you: As you wake up each morning, dare to breathe in the hope that is found in God’s mercy.

Blessings (only because of God’s grace and mercy)!
