Pastor’s Note

An article written some five years ago by a major business resource says the difference between who you are and who you want to be is nothing more than mindset. That sounds like really good news…and really troubling news! I guess Henry Ford was right – whether you think you can or think you can’t – you’re right (said by the person who also said, a customer can have any automobile painted any color they want, as long as it’s black…so much for choices). Speaking of choices…

The last 12+ months have been characterized by just about everything but choices; and now that choices are coming back into the mainstream of life, it can seem like traveling in uncharted waters. How we choose our mindset can be the difference in whether the past 12+ months have been a means of preparing for what will be or a longing for what has been. (In short, if we believe our only choice is black, there’s a really good chance black may soon become our favorite color.)

Far from popular mindsets, choosing to follow the way of Jesus Christ is not limiting but freeing. We are free to choose the narrow way when the mindset of pop culture would have us take the path of least resistance. We are free to choose respect when the rule of the day is to get them before they get you. We are free to choose moving forward in hope when nearly every fiber of our being tells us to look back with regret.

Just how many choices do we have? About as many as we think we have. That is, unless we have set our minds on following Jesus Christ – in that case, our options just increased by leaps and bounds!

Blessings,
Pastor David
