Special services during April
- Easter Cantata will be at 10:30 AM on Sunday, April 10, 2022, which also coincides with Palm Sunday. The name Palm Sunday comes from a story in the Bible in which Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem. Prior to this event, Jesus and his friends roamed the countryside teaching and performing miracles, gaining a lot of recognition. The people of Jerusalem were super-excited that Jesus was coming to their city to celebrate a big religious festival. In their excitement, the people grabbed palm branches to wave around and threw their cloaks before Jesus on the road. The whole scene might have looked something like an ancient tickertape parade. We will celebrate Palm Sunday with moving music performed by our wonderful musicians and vocal talents. Be sure to join us.
- Maundy Thursday Service: Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” As recorded in John’s gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34). Our Maundy Thursday Service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
- Easter Sunrise Service: On Easter Sunday morning, many United Methodists will rise before the sun to attend a sunrise worship service. Easter sunrise worship services take a variety of forms, but all have one thing in common—the people gather early in the morning to worship our resurrected Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Coming to worship on Easter Sunday at an hour and place different than we normally do, offers a sense that something unexpected has happened. Where there appeared to be no hope, there is now hope. Where there was death, there is now resurrection! Please join us at 6:30 AM on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Peaceful Ridge Cemetery on Highway 110. This is an interfaith service, and several pastors will coordinate the wonderful (and short) service.
