Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” As recorded in John’s gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34). Our Maundy Thursday Service will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2023. We’ll also be posting it online for those who are unable to attend in-person.
We invite you to attend the Good Friday Service being organized by Hope United Church of Christ on Third Street. The service will begin at 7 PM.
On Easter Sunday morning, many United Methodists will rise before the sun to attend a sunrise worship service. Easter sunrise worship services take a variety of forms, but all have one thing in common—the people gather early in the morning to worship our resurrected Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Coming to worship on Easter Sunday at an hour and place different than we normally do, offers a sense that something unexpected has happened. Where there appeared to be no hope, there is now hope. Where there was death, there is now resurrection! Please join us at 6:00 AM on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Peaceful Ridge Cemetery on Highway 110. This is an interfaith service, and several pastors will coordinate the wonderful (and short) service.
We’ll also be hosting a free pancake breakfast on Easter from 9-10 AM. Please come join us for pancakes and sausage. Some of the children and youth will be helping to serve, and any donations received during breakfast will be used to cover some of the costs associated with camp.
Don’t worry!
The walk (or roll, depending on the number of pancakes you consume) from the Fellowship Hall to the Sanctuary is short, and you’ll want to make sure you get there for the service on Easter. We’ll have Communion and the Easter Cantata during the 10:30 AM service. Please invite your friends and family to attend as we celebrate the good news that in Christ’s death and resurrection we, and all creation, are continually being made new by God’s love and saving grace.
