Mission Minute

There are two options for giving to the community during October. We’re looking to work with Epworth and do a little Halloween card bomb for the residents at My Place Too.

First, we’re looking for some volunteers to help adopt a dorm with Epworth. Founded in 1864, Epworth is a multiservice agency that seeks to empower youth who have experienced trauma. Epworth is empowering youth to realize their unique potential by meeting essential needs, cultivating resiliency, and building community. In some cases, this means the youth go into a residential program. We’re looking for a few volunteers to help with this residential program; specifically, to adopt the Shoemaker dorm!

This is a fun opportunity to create a program (think party or project!) that you can either do with the Epworth youth or send to them to do on their own. (About 12 teenagers live in the Shoemaker dorm.) You might sign up to organize their Valentine’s Day Party, create an art project, organize a movie night, or some other fun activity. We’d like to have one volunteer for each month beginning in November. You can sign up by contacting the church office or completing this short form.

If working with teenagers isn’t really your idea of a great time, there’s an even easier way you can brighten a day in October. There are just under 50 residents at My Place Too on Clarke Street. As soon as the cards arrive, we’ll have Halloween cards in the fellowship hall for you to sign for each of them. We’ll get them delivered to My Place Too, maybe with some spider rings, in time for Halloween!

The number of people contributing items and money for Festival of Sharing was wonderful. We were able to put together over 20 Missouri Youth Personal Care Packs. These packs will be delivered to the ShareFest in Dexter, Missouri in October. Thank you for your generosity.
