Thank you all so much for participating in various ways in our preacher/choir swap with The
Antioch Baptist Church. There were 11 of us at the historic church in The Ville neighborhood
on Sunday, April 21. We had a warm welcome, an enthusiastic reception of our offerings of
music and preaching, and were treated to a “soul food” meal at Your Place Diner (a special menu
on Sundays). Meanwhile, I’ve heard from Pastor Benson how hospitable you all were to the
team from Antioch. He and I are already talking about how we can get our whole congregations
together soon.
We’ve got lots to look forward to in May: Mother’s Day, Pentecost, Peace with Justice Sunday,
and more! Since our days in Louisville, Connie and I always celebrate Derby Day on the first
Saturday of May. And, we celebrate May 5 – not as Cinco de Mayo, but as Connie’s birthday!
Mother’s Day has always been tough for me since I lost my mom when I was 17, but I’m
grateful for two wonderful ladies who still make it special for me: My Aunt Donnie Ann
Eisenbeis, my mom’s younger sister who has been like a surrogate mother to me since 1978, and
Sue Eddens, my supportive mother-in-law since 1983.
Also coming up, but in June, is what we hope will be the first annual DeSoto Ministerial
Association and DeSoto Food Pantry Golf Tournament, sponsored by Kozzy’s Bar and Grill.
Look for details elsewhere in the newsletter!
As I finish my 10 th month among you, I feel like I might be getting the hang of this Methodist
thing. At least, I feel a little less like a deer in the headlights, most of the time. Thank you all
for your patience and support! Please let me know if there are things I’m still missing and please
keep praying for me!
