Full Circle

A few years ago, I purchased a piece of exercise equipment off craigslist. It served me well until old sports knees reminded me how past excesses can lead to present aches. I posted my equipment for sale on craigslist. It sold in one day…to the person from whom I bought the equipment! It seems he was needing to get back into an exercise routine and realized what he needed was what he had in the first place! It was quite the ‘full circle’ experience.

One of John Wesley’s biggest fears was that the people called Methodists would exist as having only the form of religion without having its power. At the same time, he knew the remedy: “…hold(ing) fast the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out.” Beginning January 13th, we will take a 7-week journey, rediscovering St. Andrew’s UMC through the sanctuary’s stained-glass windows that tell the story with which we first set out.

Coming full circle in our spiritual lives is about realizing what we need in the first place. How might the windows from our past serve as windows to our future? I hope you are able to attend all of these services. Here’s to a 2019 of moving forward in ministry with our community and our world.
