St. Andrew’s Day


St. Andrew’s Day is always celebrated on November 30th because it marks the crucifixion of the first apostle. We will again be having a free chili dinner that is open to the public. Here’s how you can help:

We will need four volunteers in the kitchen from 4:30-6:30 PM and another four from 6:30-8 PM. We also need about 100 corn muffins and 200 cookies. If you can make a couple dozen cookies or a couple batches of corn muffins and bring them to the church on Sunday, November 28th or Monday, November 29th, that would be fantastic! Facts about Andrew

  • Andrew was a fisherman before he and his brother Simon Peter became two of the 12 disciples of Jesus.
  • He was Peter’s older brother.
  • He was baptized by John the Baptist and was the first disciple of Jesus.
  • St Andrew was crucified on November 30, 60 AD, by order of the Roman governor Aegeas. He was tied to an X-shaped cross in Greece.
  • A saltire, also called Saint Andrew’s Cross or the crux decussata, is a heraldic symbol in the form of a diagonal cross, like the shape of the letter X in Roman type.
