Once we choose to follow Jesus, spiritual disciplines help our spirits to grow in wisdom, maturity, and bring us closer to God. When we spend time getting to know God, remove distractions so we don’t miss out on what He has for us, and spend time reading and meditating on the Bible and in prayer to God, we are exercising our spiritual muscles, growing into the person God created us to be, and preparing ourselves to be able to minister to and teach others.
This four-part series teaches your elementary kids what they can do to grow closer to God and live more like Jesus. Each Wednesday, a lesson will appear right here. You can also find lessons on the private Facebook group.
Week 4
Psalm 55:17 says, “Morning, noon, and night…the Lord hears my voice.”
Jake and Dot answered a lot of questions about prayer-but it’s okay if you have even more questions!
Week 3
Matthew 4:4 says, “But Jesus told him, “… ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Reading the Bible keeps your spirit healthy. Dot knew what was in the Bible, but she was just reading it to try and solve other people’s problems instead of listening to God’s Word for herself.
Week 2
John 3:30 says, “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
Add more God. Subtract more me. Distractions eat up a lot of our time, which makes me think of a joke: How do you know when a clock’s hungry? It goes back for seconds!
Week 1
James 4:8 says, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you…”
A simple prayer to go with this week’s lesson: God, please help us remember to stay connected to You and hear You clearly. In Jesus’ name, amen.
